Summary: A high-ranking seraph from the Council of Elohim, Abdiel is known to have fulfilled several important leadership roles and responsibilities pertaining to the protection of Heaven against Demiurgic forces.

According to Wisdom 24:16, Abdiel and his Beloved, Japhaniel, preside over a host of Seraphim, and are present during the exaltation proceedings of God’s children.

Abdiel was likely involved in the Seraphic defensive during Yaldabaoth’s initial attack against the heavenly realms (5:15:1-49); however, there are no scriptural references linking Abdiel directly to this event. Referred to as the 'great Commander', Abdiel led some 220,000 Seraphim during the Second War against the Demiurge (6:11:27).

Abdiel and Japhaniel dwell in the kingdom of Mahaliel, and continue to work closely with the Ahgendai in defending the realms of Heaven.
