First Reference:  Yeshua 2:6

Now there came from distant lands, Jews from Tyre and Sidon, from Damascus and Edessa, and from Alexandria and Pelusium seeking to hear for themselves the words of the Essene.

See:  Essenes, Khirbet Qumran, Paul (Saul of Tarsus)

Summary:  Damascus was the capital city of the Province of Syria, located about 60 miles northeast of the Sea of Galilee. During the days of Yeshua, Damascus was an important junction of trade routes and a growing center of Greco-Roman culture.

The re-built city of Khirbet Qumran, inhabited by the Essenes, was often referred to as Damascus. The ‘Damascus’ referred to by Paul (Saul of Tarsus) in Acts chapter 9 was the Essene community of Khirbet Qumran.
