Palestine

Pronunciation:  PAL-eh-stain

Occurrences:  1  (Commentary — 11)

First Reference:  Yeshua 1:4

Now in Caesarea did Pilate rule harshly over the lands of Palestine, being made subject himself unto Vitellius, Governor of Syria. Yet in Galilee and Perea did Herod reign wickedly, having been made king by Caesar Augustus.

See:  Canaan, Ceasarea, Pontius Pilate, Syria, Vitellius

Summary:  While the boundaries of this region have a turbulent history, the area is generally located in western Asia between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River. The land of ancient Palestine has historically been referred to as Canaan, Phonecia, Israel, and Judaea. In the days of Yeshua, Palestine (and the Jewish people) had come under the occupation of Rome, which contributed to the civil unrest within the region (Y:1:4).
