Sychar

Pronunciation:  SAI-kahr

Occurrences:  2

First Reference:  Yeshua 34:37

So the Lord came unto the lands of Samaria, unto the city which was called Sychar, and sending away the disciples that they might purchase food, he sat himself down beside Jacob’s well.

See:  Samaria, Jacob’s well

Summary:  Sychar was a Samarian city (see map) that Yeshua visited during his third year of ministry (36 CE). It was the location of Jacob’s well, where Yeshua sat and conversed with a woman who later went and told all whom she met that the Anointed One had come to the city (Y:34:37-72). Yeshua stayed and taught in the city for two days before continuing on to Ramah, a village near Jerusalem (Y:34:72; Y:35:1).

Notes/References:

And they entreated the Lord that he might stay with them, and the Lord dwelt in the city of Sychar two days, and many which were of Samaria came forth to see him.

Yeshua 37:72
