Summary: The land of the Chaldeans, or Chaldees, refers to the southeastern part
of ancient Mesopotamia, along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Today, it would be
considered the southern part of Iraq. Abraham was a Chaldean, called by God to leave
his homeland and go to the land of Canaan (B:27:5-24; Y:20:20).
Thus spoke the Lord unto Abraham. And Abraham gathered even all his household and
he journeyed with them from the land of the Chaldees.
Was not Abraham called of God to dwell in the midst of strangers when first he left
the land of the Chaldeans to come unto Canaan? Was he first born a Jew like unto
you, or a Gentile like unto these?
