Pearl 8
The truth which can be spoken
Is not Eternal Truth.
The name revealed and made most common
Is not the Eternal Name.
And mysteries spoken and passed about,
Are not Eternal Mystery.
That which is ineffable,
Is felt but not perceived,
Revealed but not possessed,
Moving soft and filled with stillness,
Soaring beyond both death and time,
Untouched but always touching.
This, the Holy, but soft descends
To touch the waiting heart,
Filling the minds of those who seek
With dreams of pure delight,
Spilling into the soulful person
The song of many wonders.
Thus, free from desire you see the Eternal,
Transcending space and time;
To stand yourself revealed in God,
Consumed in silent knowing.
But caught in the grip of base desires
You see but shadows only,
Ever seeking with grasping hands
To fill the void within.
Yet the Eternal and the Shadow
Are likewise born together,
Reflecting in each the likeness of the other,
Revealing the heart of God.
This is the mystery born of Mystery
Endless and filled with joy,
And before its gates, if you would stand,
To touch with eager heart,
In you shall be found the hidden Way
Rich in understanding.
